Description

Enjoy a cozy cup of Rich Peppermint Hot Chocolate, a creamy and indulgent beverage perfect for chilly days or holiday celebrations. Made with velvety whole milk, heavy cream, rich semi-sweet chocolate, and a refreshing hint of peppermint, this homemade hot cocoa is sure to warm your heart and delight your taste buds.

Ingredients

Scale

Liquid Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate & Cocoa

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Sweeteners & Seasoning

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • pinch of salt

Toppings (Optional)

  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Crushed peppermint candies for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat Milk and Cream: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the whole milk and heavy cream and warm until steaming but not boiling, ensuring the liquid is hot enough to melt the chocolate smoothly.
  2. Melt Chocolate Mixture: Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt to the warm milk mixture. Whisk continuously until the chocolate chips fully melt and the mixture becomes smooth and glossy.
  3. Add Extracts and Adjust Flavor: Reduce the heat to low and stir in the peppermint extract and vanilla extract. Taste the hot chocolate and adjust sweetness or peppermint flavor if desired, being careful as peppermint extract can be strong.
  4. Serve: Remove the saucepan from heat and pour the hot chocolate into mugs. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with crushed peppermint candies if using. Serve immediately while the drink is hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • For a darker chocolate flavor, use bittersweet chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.
  • Adjust the peppermint extract cautiously, as a little provides a strong flavor.
  • To make this recipe dairy-free, substitute whole milk and heavy cream with full-fat coconut milk and use dairy-free chocolate chips.
