Description

Delicious and hearty Patty Melts with a flavorful secret sauce, featuring juicy seasoned beef patties, melted cheddar and provolone cheese, all grilled between buttery rye bread slices. Perfect for a satisfying lunch or dinner in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Bread and Cheese

  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Secret Sauce

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons chopped bacon pieces
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon relish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: Form the ground beef into 3 flattened patties. Season both sides evenly with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to ensure balanced flavor.
  2. Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side until they are thoroughly cooked and browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Secret Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, chopped bacon pieces, ketchup, sugar, and relish until well combined. Set aside.
  4. Toast the Bread: Butter one side of each slice of rye bread thoroughly. Place the buttered side down onto the skillet heated over medium heat to toast the bread.
  5. Assemble: On each slice of bread in the skillet, layer 2 slices of provolone cheese first, then place one cooked beef patty on top, followed by 2 slices of cheddar cheese. Spread a generous amount of the secret sauce onto another slice of bread and place it sauce-side down to top each sandwich.
  6. Grill the Sandwiches: Cook the assembled sandwiches until the cheese starts to melt and the bottom bread is toasted golden brown. Flip the sandwiches carefully and continue grilling the other side until it is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
  7. Serve: Remove the patties melts from the skillet and serve them warm immediately for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Use freshly ground beef for best flavor and juiciness.
  • Adjust seasoning of patties according to your taste preference.
  • Butter the bread generously to get a crispy, golden crust.
  • The secret sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated to enhance flavors.
  • For a crispier texture, press the sandwich lightly with a spatula while grilling.
  • Feel free to add caramelized onions or pickles for extra flavor.
