Description

This homemade dog food recipe combines wholesome ingredients like brown rice, lean ground chicken, and fresh vegetables to create a nutritious and balanced meal for your canine companion. Slow-cooked rice paired with sautéed lean protein and veggies ensures a meal that’s gentle on your dog’s stomach and packed with essential nutrients.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown rice
  • 2 pounds lean ground chicken
  • 2 cups spinach, chopped
  • 1 large carrot, shredded (about 1 cup)
  • 1 small zucchini, shredded (about 1 cup)
  • 4 cups water (for cooking rice)

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice: In a large pot or saucepan, combine 4 cups of water and brown rice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer (medium low to low heat) and cover the pot. Cook the rice for about 45 minutes or until the rice is completely soft and all the water is absorbed.
  2. Cook the ground chicken: While the rice cooks, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the lean ground chicken and cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally until the chicken is fully cooked and no longer pink.
  3. Sauté the vegetables: Add the chopped spinach, shredded carrot, and shredded zucchini to the skillet with the cooked chicken. Continue cooking for 3-4 minutes until the spinach wilts and the vegetables soften.
  4. Combine ingredients: Remove the chicken and vegetable mixture from heat and set aside to cool. Once the rice has finished cooking, stir the rice and ground chicken-vegetable mixture together thoroughly.
  5. Cool and serve: Allow the combined dog food to cool completely before serving it to your dog or storing it for later use to ensure safety and optimum digestion.

Notes

  • Always check with your veterinarian before introducing new foods into your dog’s diet.

  • You can adjust the vegetable quantities or types based on your dog’s preferences and dietary needs.
  • Avoid adding salt, seasonings, or onion and garlic which are toxic for dogs.
