Description

Garlic Butter Steak Bites and Mash is a hearty and flavorful American main course featuring tender sirloin steak cubes seared to perfection and tossed in a fragrant garlic butter sauce. Served over creamy mashed potatoes made with russet potatoes, whole milk, sour cream, and butter, this dish offers a comforting and delicious meal perfect for an easy dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Steak Bites

  • 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Season the Steak: Generously season the sirloin steak cubes with salt and black pepper on all sides to enhance the flavor.
  2. Sear the Steak: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak cubes in a single layer, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Sear for 2–3 minutes on each side until browned and cooked to your preferred level of doneness. Remove the steak bites from the pan and set aside.
  3. Make Garlic Butter Sauce: Reduce the skillet heat to medium and add the unsalted butter and minced garlic. Stir continuously for about 1 minute until the garlic becomes fragrant but not burnt.
  4. Toss Steak in Garlic Butter: Return the seared steak bites to the skillet, tossing them well to coat in the warm garlic butter sauce. Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley, then remove the skillet from heat.
  5. Prepare Mashed Potatoes: Place peeled and cubed russet potatoes in a large pot, cover them with cold water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender. Drain thoroughly and return them to the pot.
  6. Mash the Potatoes: Add whole milk, sour cream, unsalted butter, salt, and pepper to the drained potatoes. Mash the mixture until smooth and creamy.
  7. Serve: Spoon a generous portion of mashed potatoes onto each plate, then top with the garlic butter steak bites. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can substitute sirloin steak with ribeye or tenderloin for a richer and more luxurious steak bite.
  • For an even richer mashed potato, consider adding cream cheese or roasted garlic to the mash.
