Description

The Flying Dutchman Burger is a simple, hearty double beef patty burger layered with melted cheese, perfect for a quick and satisfying meal. With optional toasted buns and classic toppings like mayo, ketchup, pickles, and onions, this burger is a delicious twist on a diner classic, ready in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Patties

  • 2 large beef patties (preferably 80% lean ground beef)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cheese

  • 2 slices of American cheese, cheddar cheese, or your favorite cheese

Buns and Toppings (Optional)

  • 2 hamburger buns
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting the buns)
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • Pickles or onions for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: Season both sides of your beef patties with salt and pepper. Shape them by hand or use a burger press, making slightly larger patties to account for shrinkage during cooking.
  2. Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the hot surface and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through, adjusting time based on preferred doneness.
  3. Melt the Cheese: When the patties are almost done, place a slice of cheese on top of each and cover the pan with a lid to help the cheese melt evenly, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Toast the Buns (Optional): Butter the inside of each hamburger bun and place them face down in the skillet for 1-2 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  5. Assemble the Burger: Place the first cheesy patty on the bottom bun (if using), stack the second cheesy patty on top, and cover with the top bun.
  6. Add Optional Toppings: Spread mayonnaise or ketchup inside the buns if desired, and add pickles, onions, or your favorite toppings.
  7. Serve: Slice the burger in half and serve with fries or a side salad for a classic meal.

Notes

  • Use 80% lean ground beef for juicy, flavorful patties.
  • Adjust cooking times to suit your preferred level of burger doneness.
  • Buns are optional; the burger is delicious served without for a low-carb option.
  • Feel free to customize toppings to your taste, such as adding lettuce or tomato.
  • Butter the buns for a richer, toasted flavor and crisp texture.
